During his entire professional career in education Robert (Bob)

T H Smith continued to paint in his spare time. Much of his

subject matter involved the elements, the landscape, earth and

that which grows, the sky, sun, moon, fire and tide, and the

pursuit of understanding their changes in all the seasons

rendered in many forms. Although always serious his work is

suffused with wit and supported by a broadly read and

inquisitive perspective.

Since retiral from professional life the artist continued to

research his subject and execute his work with enthusiasm and

dedication.
